This was so interesting Bethany. I was showing it to my son who sketches comics and creates characters... some of which evolve over time. It was a great example for him.

The evolving names - myrlaex, welkin, glider - remind me of Tolkien's multiple names (hobbit, holbytla, halfling). Perhaps you were settling into the culture from which you wanted to tell this story, and those early names were other cultures' names, strange to us because we do not know the language?

The first name, myrlaex, was from a language I was trying to create for Pelkern. (I was making it because I loved the languages in LOTR, of course). I ended up scrapping the language, though, because I didn't have Tolkien's knack for creating languages. Almost all my made-up words were impossible to read and pronounce. (Myrlaex was one of the better ones, haha).

Over time I've realized I'm already asking a lot out of my readers by writing comics on an alien planet with alien cultures. So with Pelkern I've made readability the prime directive in my word and name choices.
